An autopsy carried out on the body of 19-year-old Styliani Giorgalli, who died in a traffic accident on Monday, revealed that she had bled out, Famagusta district police spokesman Steve Theodoulou said on Tuesday.
“According to the medical examiners, the cause of death was a haemorrhagic shock as a result of a rupture of the ascending aorta and lung caused by a metal object,” he said.
He added that further samples had been taken for laboratory tests.
The autopsy was carried out on Tuesday morning at the Nicosia general hospital by Orthodoxos Orthodoxou and Angeliki Papetta.
Giorgalli was killed when her car collided with a guardrail on the road between Avgorou and Frenaros. Her vehicle had spun out of control on a bend in the road, hitting the guardrail, before coming to a stop in the middle of the road.
She was taken to the Famagusta general hospital in Paralimni, where she was pronounced dead.
