As part of the Cyprus Insula exhibition series of events, the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation will host the participatory workshop A Day at Nicosia Airport next Saturday, November 30, in Greek and English.
The morning workshop, held between 11am and 1pm, will feature an immersive digital reconstruction of Nicosia International Airport, showcasing the value of the inaccessible site to the modernisation of the newly established Republic of Cyprus at the time, as well as the architectural legacy of this innovative built infrastructure that was abandoned.
Participants will be able to step into a virtual recreation of the airport, explore rare archival material and share stories of awe about the airport and any memories of it. “Help us document the airport’s role in shaping Cypriot modernity,” say organisers. “Your contribution will help us preserve the airport’s place in Cyprus’ collective memory!”
For those who want to know more, the foundation has also been hosting free guided tours of the exhibition Cyprus Insula History, Memory, Reality. Two more are coming up in December. One in English on December 7 at 12pm and another in Greek on December 10 at 5pm.
