The European Union National Institutes for Culture in Cyprus (EUNIC), in collaboration with the Friends of Cinema Society, and with the support of the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, have the pleasure of presenting Europe in Cinema.
Europe in Cinema is a film series showcasing European films from a wide array of genres and languages over the span of 2025. The film series offers a comprehensive cinematic experience, from thought-provoking dramas to heart-warming comedies. This diversity reflects the multicultural essence of Europe itself, with films that explore themes ranging from historical events to contemporary social issues.
The opening ceremony will be on January 16 at 8.15pm at Pantheon Theatre, Nicosia. A cocktail reception will follow the screening.
The film series starts with the screening of Die Odyssee (English title: The Crossing, 2021), a French, German and Czech coproduction, directed by Florence Miailhe. The screening is organised by the Goethe-Institut Cyprus.
The Crossing tells the story of two siblings who are forced to flee and on their search for shelter and peace, survive incredible challenges. The story is told through impressive images. It is an animation that was drawn by hand with oil on glass. The film will be screened with German dialogue and English subtitles.
Cinephiles will also have the chance to watch films from Austria, Cyprus, France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Poland and Spain. All of them will be screened for free and at Pantheon Theatre in their original language with English or Greek subtitles. The film titles to follow throughout the year will be announced.
