A car belonging to a 70-year-old man in the Larnaca suburb of Aradippou was set on fire for the second time in the space of six weeks, the police said on Friday.
Larnaca police spokesman Christodoulos Konsolos said the fire broke out at around 4am, and that the vehicle had been parked in a “fenced area” next to the man’s house.
He added that while “firefighters arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire”, the fire nonetheless “completely destroyed” the vehicle.
The vehicle, he said, already had “extensive damage to its rear from a previous arson attack committed on April 25 at the same location”.
“No one was injured in the fire,” he added, saying that the police are now guarding the scene, and that further investigations are expected to be carried out in due course.
At the time of the previous fire, he had said that investigations had “identified signs of flammable material” at the site.
