The government on Wednesday confirmed it has received the report from the United States bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives (ATF) concerning the recent wildfire in the Limassol mountain region which killed two people.

The ATF, part of the US department of justice, was invited to Cyprus by President Nikos Christodoulides to investigate the incident.

According to officials, the document is lengthy and detailed. It has been delivered to the authorities in Nicosia and is currently under review.

The contents include findings on the circumstances and conditions surrounding the fire. President Christodoulides stated that the report will be released to the public. He added that this will take place once all measures are taken to protect personal data, in line with existing legal requirements.

The involvement of the ATF followed the large wildfire in the Limassol hills, which spread rapidly and caused significant concern.

Authorities requested external assistance to ensure a specialised technical assessment. At present, the government is examining the report and preparing it for publication.
