Open for only a few years, Hadjicharalambous winery puts emphasis on quality not quantity

What is fueling the rise of boutique wineries? A new generation of wine lovers is reaching for labels with prestige or legacy, they are seeking connection, authenticity and something crafted with care. This involves small production runs, hands-on techniques and a focus on character and craftsmanship; wines not mass-produced for the supermarket shelf.

One of the charms of the wine regions of Cyprus is the family-owned wineries. Although a norm, these wineries vary in size. The larger ones offer wonderful tasting experiences, while the smaller beguile with intimacy – allowing wine lovers to taste wines with the owners and winemakers.

Which brings us to Hadjicharalambous winery located in the heart of Stroumbi village. In 2022, Christos Hadjicharalambous decided his job as a mechanical engineer had come full circle and he started thinking of looking after the family vineyards. Don’t be fooled by the simple surroundings, this boutique winery is knocking it out of the park.

The self-taught Christos has practised low-intervention winemaking across four and a half hectares of family vineyards. The winery produces five wines from Chardonnay, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. With quality firmly prioritised over quantity, annual production is deliberately limited to around 4,000 bottles, allowing careful attention at every stage of the winemaking process.

Beyond its commitment to artisanal winemaking, the winery offers immersive visitor experiences designed to create a deep connection between wine lovers and the winemaking journey. The winery’s setting in the majestic scenery of Stroumbi enhances the tasting experience. These experiences cater to both curious newcomers and educated connoisseurs.
