Olympia Dukakis, best known for her Oscar-winning film ‘Moonstruck’, has died at the age of 89. The news was broken on Saturday by her brother, Apollo Dukakis in a Facebook post.

Dukakis won a best supporting actress Academy Award for her role in ‘Moonstruck’. The 1987 rom-com is the story of a widow, played by Cher, who falls for her fiancé’s brother. Dukakis played Cher’s critical mother.

The actress was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, to Greek immigrant parents. Dukakis was also noted for her work in ‘Steel Magnolias’, ‘Mr. Holland’s Opus’, ‘Look Who’s Talking’ and the mini series ‘Sinatra’.
