While the world struggles to shift from petrol to electric vehicles, efforts to reclaim the economically costly hours of congestion, and cut down on accidents and CO2 emissions resulting from non-adaptive traffic lights, are also under way.

In fact, one start-up called NoTraffic has set its sights on making the world’s car travel more time-efficient, safe and eco-conscious, using an Artificial Intelligence-run system of smart sensors and data monitoring in real time.

Trialled with successes so far, across American cities, it may just be that, in the near future, the traffic lights we approach are ‘smart’ and offer genuinely choreographed travel, responding to actual drive flow while adapting efficiently to accidents and pedestrians’ needs.
