Plenty of songs have been written about grand historical moments and an upcoming musical event at the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation will focus on history. Two musicians will come together on November 18 to honour important figures and events of the Greek Revolution through the erudite songs of the ancient Greeks – Graeci.
The event will be the Pancyprian premiere of the musical performance and marks this month’s addition to the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation’s Moments at the Museum series of events. The performance is intended to be musical-historical praise of the national regeneration, showcasing the rich musical tradition of people that fought hard for their freedom after 400 years of slavery.
Soprano Mariza Anastasiades and pianist Ζbynek Maruska unfurl the thread of time through an alternative soundscape performed live in the museum. Their free performance includes 18 emblematic songs and tunes of the Greek people, processed into well-learned music. Starting at 7.30pm, the songs will relay events and promote historical figures of 1821 while evincing the soul and undying ideals of the Greeks: faith and love for the homeland, self-sacrifice, chivalry and freedom.
