Classical music pieces and local talents will once more fill the concert theatres of the island as the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra prepares for its next performances. May 12 and 13’s concerts however will shine the spotlight on a new generation of Cypriot musicians, welcoming on stage two young rising soloists. The charismatic 14-year-old violinist Ela Kallides and the amazing 16-year-old pianist Panayiotis Drakopoulos are set to perform under the baton of Yiorgos Kountouris.

The first concert will take place at Nicosia’s Pallas Theatre on May 12 and the second at Larnaca’s Municipal Theatre G. Lycourgos. Besides featuring two emerging musicians, the Rising Young Soloists concert is made even more special by a programme of pure romanticism.

Works by Franz Liszt, Pablo de Sarasate and Maurice Ravel will be performed, pieces in which emotions and passion are given full reign, along with a piece by Cypriot composer George Kolias for good measure.

Kallides will give audiences her interpretation of the scintillating gipsy spirit through the works Gypsy airs by the Spanish composer de Sarasate and Tzigane by the French composer Ravel. Drakopoulos will be interpreting the 1st Piano concerto by Liszt, a highly demanding work, both emotionally and technically.

“This is an intergenerational musical alchemy you should not miss,” says the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra.”
