Military exercises with French aircraft carrier

French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is on the island, as part of military exercises Cyprus is involved in, Defence Minister Charalambos Petrides said on Sunday.

“Within the framework of exercises and multilateral partnerships, we are carrying out air defence exercises that Cyprus taking part in,” he noted.

The aircraft carrier will be in the area for a “predetermined time” while cooperation Cyprus has built up extends to a number of countries and allies, the minister said.

“Our goal is peace and stability in the broader region.”
