Tax department warns public of new SMS scam

The tax department warned that spam messages impersonating their services are being sent out in a likely fraud attempt.

The department on Tuesday urged the public to ignore the messages they may have received over the past few days from “[email protected]”.

They emphasised that legitimate communication is only ever made through accounts ending in “@tax.mof.gov.cy”.

The department informed that the fraudulent message sent out reads “we’re informing you that your application for an automatic tax refund for the period from September 2022 to December 2022 has been approved. You can use our portal or visit your nearest tax office: https://mof-gov.net/VAT540256”.
