Police on Tuesday, arrested a man for illegal possession of ammunition, a firearm and burglary tools, in Paphos.

According to police statement, shortly after midnight, police on patrol spotted a driver on Mesogi Avenue entering a roundabout the wrong way. When they signaled for the vehicle to stop, the driver sped up and began driving recklessly while overtaking other cars. The car then came to a halt due to mechanical failure.

Police established the driver to be a 20-year-old male. In a subsequent vehicle search, police found an illegal shotgun registered to another person, burglary tools, a number of hunting cartridges, a cleaver, and an electric discharge lamp.

A preliminary drug test was administered with positive results and the man was arrested and taken into custody.
