House President Annita Demetriou met with Ukraine’s ambassador to Cyprus, Ruslan Nimchynskiy, on Thursday as she reaffirmed Cyprus’ full support to Ukraine and its people based on international law.

A statement from parliament said that Demetriou described the war as a matter of survival for both Ukraine and Europe and is a conflict which must be won.

She also singled out the need for the bloc to deal with propaganda and misinformation.

Referring to her recent meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart Ruslan Stephanchuk and the signing of a memorandum of cooperation, Demetriou expressed parliament’s readiness to assist Ukraine wherever possible.
Nimchynskiy stressed the importance of the memorandum in strengthening bilateral relations at the parliamentary level. He also expressed his sincere thanks for Cyprus’ multi-level support and assistance to Ukraine and for the generous hospitality extended to Ukrainian refugees in Cyprus.
