We are officially in Cyprus’ holiday week, the busiest of the year for coastal cities and a rather quiet one for Nicosia. Nonetheless, everywhere on the island (Nicosia too), there’s something to see, do and enjoy albeit a little different than usual.
For those staying in the capital this week and escaping the crowds, OPU Collective is organising the Stuck in Nicosia event on Thursday. The team is opening up their space in Ayioi Omologites for a casual hang-out at 8pm with drinks and music by three DJs.
On Saturday, as Nicosia is bound to be even more empty, Lost + Found Drinkery will put on a party to remember. Cocktails and music from the 60s to the 80s covering disco, pop and everything in between will keep guests entertained and in a jolly, summer mood.
Outside the big cities, rural villages have plenty of fun planned for this week with traditional festivals, live music, markets with local produce and activities for all ages. In Stroumpi village, the 45th Dionysia Festival will be on this Friday and Saturday with performances by popular Greek singers such as Giorgos Tsalikis and Lefteris Pantazis.
In Lefkara, the 42nd Lefkara Festival is on until Saturday. On Friday, a retro party featuring the famous band ONE performing live will entertain guests, while on Saturday, the school courtyard will turn into an outdoor cinema with an 8.30pm screening for children and a 10.30pm screening for adults.
Kato Mylos in Paphos is celebrating a seasonal fruit by putting together another edition of its Peach Festival this Saturday. Cooking demonstrations by chefs will show all of the delicious and creative recipes one can do with peaches, a workshop will teach participants how to make body mist with peach aromas, a photography exhibition will be on as well as music and dance shows in the evening.
In the city of Paphos, the band Trio in Cahoots will perform live at the Technopolis 20 garden this Sunday. Jazz sounds, pop, folk and Latin influences and improvisation elements will sound on Sunday as musicians present songs from the likes of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Nick Drake. The live music will start at 8pm, concluding another full week of happening around the island. Happy August holidays!
