Cutesy venue takes brunch seriously

By Andrea Kouyialis

Some places feel like home even before stepping in. There’s a warm cosiness to Nanas Brunch in Trimiklini that can’t quite be summed up with words. A combination of the greenery, colourful décor and the intricate attention to detail really goes to show how much love and care has been poured into the place.

Don’t be put off by the somewhat twee exterior – it has recently been painted red (in time for Christmas?) – this is a place that takes food seriously.

The old Cyprus-style wooden chairs inside and on the small terrace are presented with a modern twist, painted in happy colours such as pink, navy blue and purple with aptly chosen cushion colours as well. There is also a small garden area. The frames, flowers and furniture show an incredibly well thought-out design, creating a welcoming environment that encapsulates warmth and familiarity.

The same can be said about the food. Generous portions, home-made recipes, authentic flavours and delicious combinations make brunch at Nanas an enjoyable experience, although it is almost impossible to finish an order single-handedly and in one go.

For savoury, we went for the Poached Egg Avocado that entailed what it says in the name along with bacon and parmesan flakes on a wholemeal baguette. The bread was almost certainly homemade as it came with a richness that isn’t the same when store bought.

Nanas Brunch doesn’t joke around where portions are concerned. The baguette isn’t your typical small, quaint bread. It’s thick, warm and authentic, making it stand out from your average avocado and egg combo.

But if you’re there you have to try some form of dessert. An array of mouthwatering cakes went past us as we gazed on in admiration but in the end we went for the French Toast which comes with two options. We went for banoffee, praline, nuts and caramel, served with a few scoops of ice cream.

It was heavy for an 11am breakfast but no regrets. After spending the previous day hiking, the feast felt well deserved and well earned. It was a beautiful indulgence that left us full but knowing we’ll be coming back for more.

Despite it being in Trimiklini, it’s an incredibly popular spot so bear in mind reservations ahead of time are encouraged. It was packed on Sunday noon – for understandable reasons!
