The Paralimni and Dherynia municipality on Saturday announced it had knocked down a building in Protaras which had been constructed illegally.
The municipality said the building was knocked down after a unanimous decision was made by the municipal council.
Mayor Giorgos Nikolettos said the building was “made of cheap materials” and had “been located in the heart of Protaras for years and was threatening public hygiene”.
With the building now gone, he said his municipality will now aim to improve the area aesthetically, and added that “similar phenomena involving indecency or illegality … in any part of this municipality will not be tolerated”.
“We are working day and night to upgrade our residents’ living standards as well as the experience of people visiting. The municipality will continue its work with the aim of upgrading its residents’ living standards and making the area more beautiful,” he said.
