Two spectacular concertos are coming up at The Shoe Factory in Nicosia this February. Invited esteemed musicians from abroad will travel to the capital to offer unique evenings of high-calibre music as the Pharos Arts Foundation hosts four renowned artists.
Approaching first is a recital with Giovanni Bertolazzi, an artist who has established himself as one of the most compelling pianists of his generation. He is a laureate of over 40 prestigious international piano competitions, including the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in Budapest, and his exceptional artistry and technical brilliance have earned him worldwide acclaim. His playing has been described as delivering “a pianistic drama of overwhelming power and poetry.”
The Pharos Arts Foundation, in collaboration with the Keyboard Charitable Trust, presents this remarkable pianist in his Cyprus debut recital on February 19. Bertolazzi is certain to astound the audience with his virtuosity in a programme of exceptional depth and technical complexity, featuring works by Bach/Busoni, Beethoven, Verdi, and Liszt.
Towards the end of the month, The Shoe Factory will welcome Amatis Trio – one of the leading piano trios of its generation, celebrated for its electrifying synergy, insight and unique communication on stage.
With performances at major venues such as the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the Konzerthaus Vienna, and appearances in the world’s leading festivals including the BBC Proms and the Verbier Festival, the Amatis Trio has enthralled audiences across over 40 countries and five continents, and has been praised for its “stunning, stormy, and masterful” performances.
The trio, comprised of Mengjie Han on piano, Lea Hausmann on violin and Samuel Shepherd on violoncello, will also make its Cyprus debut this month. The concert is scheduled for February 28, when the trio will perform a magnificent programme of Schubert, Mendelssohn and Andrea Tarrodi.
More specifically, the evening’s repertoire will include Schubert’s first piano trio – a work of profound intensity and symphonic grandeur, Mendelssohn’s second piano trio – a highly virtuosic masterpiece that is seldom performed nowadays, and the evocative work Moorlands by Swedish composer Andrea Tarrodi, which was especially written for the Amatis Trio.
