The fifth concert of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra’s Chamber Music Series will present the graceful CySO String Quartet. In two upcoming concerts, in Nicosia on March 7 and Limassol on March 8, the quartet will take audiences on a journey from the timeless spirituality and charm of Bach’s works to Shostakovich’s grand compositions and Dvořák’s melodies.
The quartet is fairly new yet its members are no stranger to taking the stage and delivering masterpieces of the classical music repertoire. Founded in 2023, the quartet quickly established itself as one of the leading ensembles on the island. Uniting different cultures, the quartet aims to present a very diverse repertoire, ranging from Baroque to avant-garde music.
The quartet consists of leaders of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra: the concertmaster Wolfgang Schroeder, the principal violist Kumiko Okutomi and the principal cellist Jakub Otčenášek as well as the violin tutti member Iraklis Mitellas.
In both concerts, the musicians will perform Bach’s Chorales, Shostakovich’s grand Quartet no. 12, a personal emotional tribute to the victims of fascism and war, and the flowing melodic invention of Dvořák’s American quartet. Both performances start at 8pm, and Limassol’s concert in Ipsonas is held within the Kourion Classical Music Days and is therefore free!
