International Women’s Day is just around the corner. Soon, dozens of events celebrating the achievements and lives of women all around the world will enrich the cultural agenda and one of them is a jazz night in Paphos.
The Charlotte Storer Jazz Quartet is getting ready to perform at John’s Restaurant in Trimiklini on March 8, presenting a special programme for the evening. The quartet is led by British Cypriot jazz vocalist Charlotte Storer who has earned quiet reverence across discerning jazz circles for her authentic style preserving the art form’s most sophisticated traditions.
Her unconventional journey began between border checkpoints in the world’s last divided capital – Nicosia, where she emerged from a jazz peacebuilding programme under the mentorship of New York Jazz Ambassadors. Now she is active in Cyprus’ jazz scene, performing often with her trio.
Alongside her are renowned Cypriot musicians – pianist Dimitris Miaris, double bassist Kyriakos Kesta and drummer Marios Spanou. To celebrate the day, the musicians have prepared a swinging evening with a programme of carefully curated songs celebrating the legacy of jazz’s pioneering women.
