Armida Publications and the creative arts space Chez-nού·literary society present the poetry collection Afloat by Cypriot author Christina Metaxa. The book presentation will take place at Chez-nού in Limassol’s Potamos Germasogeia area on March 19.

Afloat is a collection of poems written in English, infused with French and Greek elements – an introspective journey from darkness and solitude to light and life. Metaxa’s poetry is distinguished by a deep, reflective style, interwoven with a sense of honesty and authenticity that runs through her works. Her poems explore the search for meaning and hope amid sorrow and loneliness.

Melancholy, allure, depth of thought, inner dilemmas, hope and inner strength ready to be freed and liberated – these are just some of the emotions that Afloat offers its readers.

Speaking at the upcoming book presentation will be Valia Metaxa, educator, translator, and book editor as well as Marilena Zackheos, author and academic. The event will include readings and a speech by the author.

Afloat may be Metaxa’s first poetry collection yet she has published poems and translations in literary magazines such as Synecdoche (USA), In Focus (Cyprus), and Aldus Journal of Translation (USA), where she featured translations of Cypriot poems and lullabies. Her Creative Writing and French Studies took her to Brown University in the USA, as well as at Sorbonne University in France and today, she teaches English, French and Creative Writing to children and adults in Cyprus.

In 2009, she published her first children’s storybook in Greek, titled Snakey No-Brainkey. In 2020, her poems were included in a Cypriot poetry anthology and in 2021 she published the book An Honorable Woman, Letter in honour of her grandmother. She is soon expected to release the second book in her children’s story series as well as her first novel, Antithetical Sensation.
