Joining the global celebrations of Italian Design Day this March 21, Nicosia will also mark the occasion with a special event series. The theme of the 9th edition focuses on Inequalities and a Design for a Better Life.

The Embassy of Italy is organising an eventful day this Friday at the University of Nicosia, Department of Architecture. The day’s programme begins at 9am with a masterclass led by architect Mario Trimarchi, from ADI Design Museum in Milan, and Professor Alessandra Swiny, from UNIC Architecture. This class is reserved for students of the faculty.

In the evening, and at the same venue, the architect will hold a lecture in English titled Could Poetry in Design Reduce Inequalities? “The 6pm lecture is open to everyone,” say organisers, “since design is no longer an elitist product, but a collective and shared process that has a strong impact on the life and experience of us all.”

The lecture will be preceded by a brief welcome speech by the Ambassador of Italy Federica Ferrari Bravo and an introduction to the general topic of the Italian Design Day by Professor Alessandra Swiny. And that is not all. In the atrium of the University, visitors will be able to enjoy the exhibition PINK Women of Italian Graphic Design. From the Origins to Contemporaneity, which will remain open until April 11.

“Join us to appreciate the creativity and innovation of Italian design,” conclude organisers, “and for a dialogue between our two countries on the proposed issues.”
