Cyprus has a lively jazz scene and in the upcoming weeks several performances are taking place around the country. This weekend, Sarah’s Jazz Club welcomes back the Charlotte Storer Quartet for a Saturday night gig.
On March 22, vocalist Charlotte Storer will team up with pianist Dimitris Miaris, bassist Kyriakos Kesta and drummer Marios Spyrou to present a soulful night of classic jazz songs. The quartet has performed extensively around the island, each musician has performed in Europe and the world, and this Saturday they join forces for a show in the capital.
A few days later, on March 30, a live jazz jam session will take place at Plato’s Bar & Grill, hosted by The Bopster Trio. The usual jazz suspects will take over the floor – Miaris, Kestas and Spyrou – to perform a variety of music from the jazz repertoire. What’s special about this evening is that it is a jam session so musicians and vocalists in the audience are welcome to join.
On the last day of the month, the Steppin’ Out Jazz Band will pay tribute to Sarah Vaughan with a special performance at Technopolis 20 in Paphos. The evening, titled Sassy, will celebrate one of the most beloved artists of the 20th century. Vaughan’s interpretations of popular songs helped canonise what is now known as the Great American Songbook.
Vocalist Alice Ayvazian will be joined on stage by Miaris on the piano and Costas Challoumas on double bass with their wealth of experience, expertise and exciting arrangements of classic Jazz songs.
