The retail trade sector in Cyprus exhibited strong growth in February 2025, according to a report released on Wednesday by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).

Specifically, the turnover value index rose by 5.6 per cent while the turnover volume index increased by 4.7 per cent during this time, when compared to February 2024.

Breaking down the categories, cultural and recreation goods, which include books, stationery, sports equipment, and toys, saw the highest increase in February 2025 compared to February 2024.

Specifically, the value index for this category surged by 18.2 per cent, and the volume index increased by 17.8 per cent.

The clothing and footwear category also saw significant growth, with the volume index showing a notable increase of 9.6 per cent in February 2025 compared to February 2024.

Conversely, the segment of retail sales not in stores, which covers online and other non-store retailing, experienced a downturn.

In February 2025 compared to February 2024, the value index in this segment fell by 2.4 per cent, and the volume index decreased by 1.3 per cent.

Over the first two months of 2025, January and February, retail trade excluding motor vehicles showed a 5.2 per cent rise in turnover value and a 3.7 per cent increase in turnover volume compared to the same period in 2024.
