The Goethe Institut Cyprus presents a new quarterly event series of film screenings and discussions taking place on the last Wednesday of the month. The first edition of the GoetheKino event series is titled Questions of Identity and will be held on April 30.

The programme will be a captivating series of screenings that delve into the complexities of identity, belonging and personal freedom. Featuring three thought-provoking films, this series promises to spark meaningful conversations and reflections.

Each film examines the intricate interplay between personal identity and societal expectations. The first film, Talking about the Weather, addresses self-determination and classism, Precious Ivie, on May 28, deals with casual racism and colourism, and Sisi & I, on June 25, with body image and queer relationships.

Film academic Olga Kourelou will be present at all three screenings, offering her deep knowledge and unique perspectives on the films. She will be joined by a different discussant for each film, ensuring a diverse range of viewpoints and stimulating conversations.

At the first event, researcher and historian Iliana Koulafeti will join her in discussion on the complexities of identity, belonging, and personal freedom, inspired by the film. On May 28, artist and social commentator Serap Kanay will join Kourelou after the Precious Ivie screening while on June 25 performer and educator Nayia T Karacosta will join the conversation as well.
