Orchestras of the island announce packed Spring season
As we dive further into the spring season, with summer just around the corner, a new wave of events is about to flood in. Get ready for festivals, parties and performances of all kinds in the coming weeks and months. In terms of classical music, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra have planned another packed agenda for May and June.
Both orchestras have prepared an exciting line-up that reflects their ongoing dedication to musical excellence, support of young talent and social engagement. This season you can expect the spotlight to shine again on emerging talent as rising stars take the stage next to renowned musicians. The orchestras will also bring music to every corner of the island through their outreach concerts in communities and municipalities, making music accessible to all.
Music with a purpose will take shape as the orchestra continues its established partnership with Telethon, supporting its social cause through the power of music. Side-by-side concerts will bring together the Youth Orchestra and the main orchestra to share inspiring musical experiences.

First up, is the Cyprophonia 4 – Young Conductors Gala concert on May 9. Taking place at Pallas Theatre in Nicosia, this special evening is the culmination of the International Conducting Masterclass with maestro Charles Olivieri-Munroe. In the concert, young aspiring conductors from all over the world will lead the orchestra in some of the most inspiring landmarks of the symphonic repertoire by Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Rossini and Prokofiev.
In mid-May, the Premiere 5 concerts in Larnaca and Nicosia will host Polish maestro Kinga Glowacka, winner of the CySO International Conducting Masterclass and Competition last year and the highly distinguished Norwegian cellist Øyvind Gimse as a soloist. The musicians will first take the stage of the Municipal Theatre G Lycourgos in Larnaca on May 15 and Nicosia’s Pallas Theatre the following evening.
Towards the end of May, the orchestra’s community outreach programme will begin with concerts in Tala, Pervolia, Deryneia, Peristerona, Dali and Galata. Under the direction of the rising Greek maestro Ioanna Vlagkouli, the CySO musicians will present a varied “musical bouquet” of zestful, whimsical, energising and passionate music. The concerts are scheduled for May 23 and 26-30 respectively.
Come June, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will present three more concerts in Nicosia. Charity concerts, aspiring young pianists and side-by-side performances are on the horizon!
