A film festival with a focus on diversity is coming to Cyprus cities this spring. Organised by the Centre for Social Innovation as the official representative of the European Union for the Diversity Charter Cyprus, the festival will be a week-long event from May 17 to 25 spreading across Pera Oreinis, downtown Nicosia, Lympia and old neighbourhoods.
The festival’s overarching aim is to highlight the importance of tolerance, acceptance, peaceful intercultural coexistence and interaction, social solidarity and inclusion, through high-quality films that provoke social reflection.
This year’s edition specifically aims to contribute to cultural decentralisation and promote multi-level collaborations. The programme includes screenings and parallel events in partnership with cultural venues, embassies, festivals, schools, shelters for unaccompanied refugee minors, bars, international student collectives, and more.
The Diversity Film Festival is the evolution of the annual Disability Film Festival, organised by CSI from 2021 to 2023. From now on, the newly renamed Diversity Film Festival will function as a parallel festival under the umbrella of the Diversity Forum, which will be held by the Centre for Social Innovation on May 22 at the Melina Mercouri Cultural Centre.
The Diversity Festival’s programme will include screenings, live performances, storytelling sessions, discussions with cultural professionals and actions at FEMME Fest which will take place on May 25 at the Nicosia Municipal Gardens.
