In just a few weeks, Nea Kinisi’s Summer Dance Festival returns for its 22nd edition, transforming the streets of Limassol into an open stage for contemporary dance. This year, the festival – a longstanding institution for the city of Limassol and the dance community of Cyprus – shifts its dates, taking place earlier than usual and opening the summer season with three days of performances from May 30 to June 1.

Focusing on site-specific creation, the festival invites both established and emerging choreographers to respond to the rhythms, stories and ever-changing textures of Limassol’s urban landscape. Audiences are invited to wander through the city and encounter live performances in unexpected public spaces and times – in squares, parks, streets, fountains – from late at night until the early morning hours.

The festival becomes an opportunity to observe public spaces anew and reflect on how we share, inhabit, participate in and remain actively present within them. This year’s programme includes six distinct works, ranging from personal rituals to participatory parties, workshops and picnics – inviting audiences to move and reflect on space, community and the body in motion.

Participating this year are the artists Ariana Economou, Lia Haraki, Souzana Phiala, Elias Clark, Julie Charalambidou and Maria Kamberi. The full programme and line-up of event is expected to be announced soon.
