The number of building permits authorised in Cyprus dropped by 20.4 per cent in February, when compared to the same month in 2024, the state stastical service reported on Thursday.
The report showed that 562 building permits were issued in during this time, compared to 706 in February of the previous year.
The total value of these permits reached €296.3 million, while the total area amounted to 237,200 square metres.
These permits provide for the construction of 1,094 dwelling units.
Meanwhile, during the period from January to February 2025, a total of 1,008 building permits were issued.
This represents a decrease of 22 per cent when compare to the corresponding period of the previous year, when 1,293 permits were issued.
Despite the decline in the number of permits, the total value increased by 12.1 per cent and the total area grew by 6.6 per cent.
What is more, the number of dwelling units during this period rose by 10.2 per cent.
The statistical service noted that as of July 1, 2024, the authority to issue building permits was transferred from the municipalities and the district administration offices to the newly founded local government organisations (EOAs).
The licensing process is now conducted through the new integrated information system called Ippodamos.
