Families affected by the Limassol fire will be offered gift vouchers to buy school supplies, the Pancyprian Volunteerism Council (PVCC) said on Wednesday.

Vouchers will be given out by the community leaders in Kyvides, Pachna and Souni-Zanakia to support 218 students.

“The council stands by the local communities, and their support is our duty,” PVCC president Elias Demetriou said.

PVCC also said that apart providing support to families, it aims to crack down on illegal fundraisers “to ensure their legality and to protect the citizens.”

Despite these challenges, PVCC said that donations came from both people and companies, which responded immediately to the crisis by donating cleaning supplies and food.

A wildfire swept the mountainous area of Limassol on July 23 leaving two people dead, over one per cent of the island burned and destroying hundreds of homes and other buildings.
