A cyclist was remanded for five days by the Limassol district court after police found drugs on him when he failed to stop for a check.

At around 7.30pm, members of the police Mmad unit signalled for a cyclist to stop on Liopetri street in Limassol.

The cyclist did not stop and attempted to flee as a result of which he lost his balance and fell off the bike. He then got up and ran off on foot but was stopped a short time later by police.

He then pushed a police officer and while they were trying to handcuff him, started shouting at them.

He was then taken to the Ayios Ioannis police station where it was discovered the 32-year-old had been living illegally on the island since January 3, 2024.

A search that followed found 26 foil wrapped packages containing a total of 20g cannabis, a further 16 similar packages containing 9g of amphetamines in addition to €442 in cash.

On Sunday morning he was taken to court in Limassol, which ordered his remand.

Police from Ayios Ioannnis and the drugs squad Ykan continue investigations.
