The 42-metre-high Xyliatos dam located in Troodos’ pine forest has overflowed, with a waterfall now passing through the nearby picnic area, the forestry department said on Tuesday.

“This overflow creates an impressive natural spectacle, attracting visitors and highlighting the dynamics and beauty of the natural landscape,” the department said.

The dam is a popular attraction for locals and tourists, with the department urging visitors to exercise caution when visiting while the dam continues to overflow.

“At the same time, the beneficial rains contribute substantially to the strengthening of forest ecosystems, enriching water reserves and strengthening natural vegetation,” the department concluded.
