A special screening of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, directed by London’s acclaimed National Theatre deputy artistic director Robert Hastie, is coming to Cyprus for one night only. Presented by one of Cyprus’ own esteemed theatres, the Rialto, in collaboration with National Theatre Live, the play will be screened on Saturday at 8pm in Limassol.

In this striking and contemporary reimagining, Olivier Award-winner Hiran Abeysekera (Life of Pi) stars as Hamlet, alongside Francesca Mills, winner of the 2024 Ian Charleson Award, as Ophelia. Set in a world defined by power, privilege and uncertainty, this production brings a fresh perspective to Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy, following a young prince caught between duty and doubt as he confronts the ultimate question of existence.

Renowned for his inventive and dynamic storytelling, Hastie delivers a production that is at once stylish, sharp and darkly humorous, offering audiences a vivid and emotionally resonant theatrical experience.

The cast features a distinguished ensemble, including Alistair Petrie as Claudius, Siobhán Redmond as the First Player and Geoffrey Streatfeild as Polonius, alongside a strong company of performers bringing Shakespeare’s enduring characters to life.

Filmed live at the National Theatre, this screening allows audiences to experience world-class theatre on the big screen, presented with Greek and English subtitles. This is a chance to witness what The Guardian has described as “a beautifully choreographed production”.
