Nicosia municipality on Monday signed a multi-million contract for restoration works to be done within the old town.

The contract – worth €3.44 million – was signed at the municipality headquarters.

The project – assigned to AM Andronikou contractors – is expected to take 18 months to complete.

According to the municipality, this concerns the first phase of a project for improvement works on the facades of buildings in the area covered by Ledra and Onasagorou streets.

Restoration will be done to 89 buildings, covering approximately 20,000 square metres of facades.

The municipality said the project is part of a broader revamp programme in areas in the capital close to the buffer zone.
