Cyprus joins the global celebrations of International Jazz Day which this year honours jazz as “a universal language of freedom and unity,” with a special two-day event. On April 29 and 30, the International Jazz Days Cyprus Festival 2026 will bring the celebrations to the heart of Limassol, shining a spotlight on musicians who engage with a contemporary expression of jazz.
Live performances, jazz education and events that strive to engage the community are part of the agenda this year. It all begins on April 29, at the Sto Dromo bar with a programme of educational and participatory activities starting at 4pm and offered with free entry.
These include a contemporary jazz and improvisation masterclass, a seminar on the historical and cultural evolution of jazz, as well as the interactive workshop Discover Jazz, designed for children, families and vulnerable groups. The first day concludes with an open jam session at 8.30pm, encouraging the participation of emerging musicians.
On the second and final day of the festival, the live music heads to the Rialto Theatre where a special concert takes place by two dynamic ensembles from the contemporary music scene – Chunky Funky and Soulful Groove Collective (SGC). Through original compositions, modern arrangements and a strong stage presence, the two groups present a multidimensional musical programme blending funk, groove and contemporary jazz influences, highlighting the evolving nature of jazz today.
The festival is part of the global International Jazz Day initiative, established by Unesco, which highlights jazz as a powerful medium for dialogue, cultural exchange and creative expression worldwide.
