An upcoming event celebrates the joy of singing in a group. Four choirs and vocal ensembles are joining forces for a special event at Paphos’ Chlorakas Ampitheatre. On May 9 the venue will come to life with the sound of voices raised in joyous song.
Titled Paphos Sings, this unique, one-night-only show is hosted by Paphos’ own barbershop chorus for women, the Spellbound choir. On the evening, they will not be the only ones taking the stage as several special guest choirs are part of the event.
Participating is Harmony, a well-established choir from the area, Vilna, a Ukrainian vocal ensemble known for their traditional harmonies and Concentric, a very new group to the area. The idea to host the event that brings together the choirs and the delight of group singing came to the musical director of Spellbound, Mark Grindall, driven by his passion for promoting singing for all.
“Singing is so good for the soul and for the body,” he says, “it is a hobby for some, a passion for others and any opportunity we get to celebrate the joy and skill that goes into any form of singing should be grabbed with both hands.”
An eclectic mix of music will sound on the evening, ranging from songs by Queen, Adele and Amy Winehouse to music from renowned shows and musicals and choral and traditional music repertoire. So, if curious to explore Paphos’ singing groups and music opportunities, this evening is just the event for you. Plus, a few more surprise guest performances are on the agenda, revealed only to those who attend.
