A 44-year-old Romanian national was remanded in custody for two days on Saturday over a series of burglaries in Androlykou and Argaka.

The Paphos district court ordered his detention after hearing that police had yet to complete their investigation and expected to take a further 10 statements from people connected to the suspect.

The court heard that available evidence indicated the man was allegedly involved in burglaries, thefts and malicious damage reported in the two villages during last year.

One case concerns a break-in at premises in Androlykou on March 2, 2025, where according to the complainant, generators and other equipment worth some €225,000 were stolen.

DNA evidence at the scene was collected as part of the investigation.

The suspect is also allegedly connected to the theft of generators and other items worth about €2,000 from premises in Argaka.

Police recovered various items from both locations and sent them for forensic examination.

The suspect appeared in court without a lawyer and did not object to his detention.

He complained regarding his detention conditions, informing the court that he had been forced to sleep on the floor due to two prisoners sharing a cell with one bed.
