The MountMed Institute, coordinator of the European project “Mountain Games: A Celebration of Sports, Culture and Inclusion,” is pleased to announce its partnership with Wizz Air, which has become the Official Airline Partner of Mountain Games Cyprus 2026. This collaboration forms part of the event’s ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility and international participation in the project, which is funded by the Erasmus+ Sport Programme.
Through this partnership, Wizz Air will support the travel of athletes, volunteers, researchers and visitors from the ten European countries participating in the project’s consortium by leveraging the airline’s extensive network of destinations. The initiative aims to facilitate access to Cyprus ahead of the project’s public flagship event, taking place in the Troodos Mountains over September 23-26, 2026, as part of the 12th European Week of Sport.
The involvement of an international airline as the event’s official carrier is expected to broaden participation and attract visitors from across Europe, while supporting the event’s objectives of inclusion, sustainable mobility and promoting the mountainous regions of Cyprus as a vibrant destination for sport, culture and outdoor recreation.
“We are delighted to support Mountain Games Cyprus 2026 as the Official Airline Partner of the event. We believe in the power of sport to bring people and places together, and we are proud to help connect Europe with the mountains of Cyprus while supporting an initiative that promotes healthy lifestyles and the sustainable development of mountain communities,” noted Olivia Harangozo, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.
Stavros Kazamias, Executive Director of the MountMed Institute and Project Coordinator, also hailed the collaboration. “Our partnership with Wizz Air is an important milestone for Mountain Games Cyprus 2026, as it enables us to bring athletes, visitors and partners from across Europe closer together. Accessibility is a key factor in the success of an event with such a strong European dimension, and this collaboration significantly strengthens our ability to welcome participants from across the continent,” he said.
