This School of Life video explores how our homes support and reflect our identities – and why that matters.
One of our most basic psychological needs is to create a home: a space furnished and arranged in such a way as to reflect our values back to us. Beyond providing comfort and security, therefore, a home is a kind of reservoir of our conscious, and perhaps unconscious beliefs, commitments and life aspirations.
That’s why we can legitimately get so excited (or distressed) by matters of home decoration – and why, after too long on the road, we long to get back to our own place. There’s a lot a home can say about someone… whether they’re aware of it, or not.
The School of Life is a global organisation devoted to teaching people how to lead a more fulfilled life.
