The police warned the public of a new scam on Wednesday with the perpetrators extorting money from people by promising investments in activities in which famous personalities allegedly participate.
The perpetrators create and publish false photos or even videos on social media, with famous people supposedly encouraging the public to participate in various investment activities.
“These advertisements constitute an attempt to deceive” the public, the police said, adding that “the purpose of the fraudsters is to extract money from citizens through the false investment activities that are advertised.”
The police advise the public to avoid any communication or transaction that is advertised through these posts.
People who wish to engage in investment plans and activities should do so through legal, registered and licenced financial institutions or advisors, the police added.
