Alpha Bank Cyprus on Friday announced the addition of three seasoned professionals to its senior management team.
The bank said that the new additions will “reinforce its leadership structure to more effectively implement its strategic plan”.
Popi Hadjioannou Demetriou has been appointed as Chief Retail Banking Officer, George Siammoudis as Chief Risk Officer, and George Charalambous as Chief International Banking Officer.
The bank noted that Demetriou is a Chartered Accountant certified by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), with over 30 years of experience in the banking sector.
She has held senior managerial positions at both Alpha Bank Cyprus and Eurobank Cyprus, “gaining extensive experience in liquidity management, retail banking, and affluent banking”.
The bank added that “her in-depth knowledge of the banking market, ability to lead large teams, and expertise in designing and implementing customer-centric service models are expected to play a key role in Alpha Bank Cyprus’ further development”.
In her new role, the bank continued, “she will lead the strategy for the Retail Banking Division, strengthening the Bank’s physical and digital presence with the aim of delivering personalised, modern, and efficient solutions to clients”.
The announcement also stated that George Siammoudis brings broad expertise in corporate finance along with specialised knowledge in banking governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) with over 20 years of professional experience. In addition, he has held leadership roles at PwC and Alpha Bank Cyprus, with a focus on valuations and loan portfolio quality assessments, stress testing and loan impairments, risk data analysis and reporting, and the development of risk methodologies.
“His dual background in banking and consultancy allows him to align supervisory and regulatory requirements with operational strategy,” Alpha Bank said.
“As Chief Risk Officer, he will be responsible for shaping and overseeing the Bank’s risk management strategy, enhancing its operational resilience and strengthening its corporate governance framework,” the bank added.
Meanwhile, George Charalambous joins Alpha Bank Cyprus as Chief International Banking Officer. The announcement mentioned that he has “extensive experience in corporate and international banking, as well as in managing delinquent and non-performing loans”.
Charalambous has held leadership roles in Cyprus and abroad, including at PwC, Laiki Bank, Russian Industrial Bank, and Hellenic Bank.
“He has consistently demonstrated strong strategic thinking and leadership abilities,” the bank said.
“His contribution in portfolio restructuring and international development is expected to further support the bank’s outward-looking strategy,” it added.
The addition of these three executives, the announcement said, “marks a significant step in enhancing the bank’s operational effectiveness and extroverted orientation, aligned with its commitment to continuously upgrade services and support the Cypriot economy”.
“We are pleased to welcome Popi Hadjioannou Demetriou, George Siammoudis, and George Charalambous to our Executive Team,” said Alpha Bank Cyprus CEO Miltos Michaelas.
“Their valuable experience, strategic thinking, and deep knowledge of the banking sector significantly enhance our capacity to deliver high-quality services to our customers and effectively implement our strategic plan,” he added.
“Together, we continue decisively, with stability and a shared vision, to build the bank of tomorrow,” Michaelas concluded.
