Seven people were arrested during coordinated police operations carried out across Cyprus on Wednesday night, authorities said on Thursday.

The arrests relate to a range of offences, including assault, indecent assault, rioting, illegal possession of explosives, stabbing, theft, intoxication and assault on a police officer.

Police said 852 drivers and passengers were stopped and checked, while 40 premises were inspected, leading to one violation.

Traffic controls resulted in 227 fines for various violations, while 48 additional cases are under investigation. Of the total fines, 78 were for speeding.

More than 80 alcohol tests were also carried out, resulting in three violations, while 48 vehicles were seized.

Police said such operations continue daily with increased presence and targeted checks to prevent crime, protect the public and maintain order.
