Women in leadership positions across Cyprus will come together in Nicosia on November 10 for a discussion on financial empowerment, with the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) seeking to help close the financial literacy gap between women and men.

The event, entitled ‘Financial Literacy for Cypriot Women’, is being organised by the Cyprus Financial Literacy and Education Committee (CyFLEC) and the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) at The Landmark Nicosia, Autograph Collection.

Bringing together women who hold influential positions in Cypriot society, the gathering aims to encourage a meaningful discussion about financial independence, knowledge and informed decision-making, while examining how women can become more confident in managing their finances.

The initiative, held under the theme ‘Learn, Decide, Progress’, also seeks to establish a network of women who can share financial knowledge and practical experience within their professional, social and local communities.

The organisers hope that participants will become ambassadors of financial education, passing on their knowledge and encouraging other women to take a more active role in financial decisions.

The event will open with addresses by CBC governor Christodoulos Patsalides, who also chairs CyFLEC, and Education Minister Athena Michaelidou, a member of the committee’s board of directors.

A keynote speech on gender differences in financial decision-making will follow, delivered by Philip Dennis, professor at Durham University in the United Kingdom.

The discussion will then turn to the financial literacy gap and the practical measures needed to narrow it.

A roundtable entitled ‘Women and Financial Empowerment: The Persistent Gap and How We Can Bridge It’ will be moderated by Pani Karamanou, head of the CBC’s financial stability and resolution directorate-general.

Participants will include Gender Equality Commissioner Josie Christodoulou and Financial Commissioner Valentina Georgiadou, who also serves as a financial literacy ambassador.

Through the initiative, CyFLEC hopes to extend the conversation beyond those attending, creating a wider network of women capable of sharing financial knowledge and encouraging others to make better-informed decisions.

The event, supported by the Moneypedia financial education platform, will take place from 10am to noon on Tuesday, November 10.
