An immersive experience in music and light

plekto duet

A different kind of music event is coming to Nicosia this month as the Plektó duet combines sound with lights. The duet is an ensemble formed by Cypriot musicians Eva Stavrou on flute and Natasa Hadjiandreou on percussion, whose goal is to showcase the work of important composers of the 20th and 21st centuries to a wide audience.

Their newest project will be presented at ARTos House in Nicosia on December 17, in a performance that combines flute, percussion and electronics. For this, Eva and Natasa will collaborate with George Lazoglou who will be on lights.

“The use of new technologies is now an integral part of our daily lives. So it is in music. The concert presents one of the most popular music genres in the world today, mainly for young people. That is electronic music,” the Plektó duet says. “Electronic music began in the late 19th century, with the first experimental sounds being the dominant musical genre of the time. In parallel with the evolution of technology, composers introduce new sounds into their compositions using computers to experiment in new sound directions. The repertoire presents works by Tejera, Eötvös, Cangelosi, Sener and Jodlowski, in which the timbres of ‘classical’ instruments merge with that of pre-recorded and processed sounds (electronics).”

The performance comes after various concerts by the duet around Cyprus at the Dance House Nicosia, the Cultural Foundation Bank of Cyprus, the European University Cyprus and Technopolis20.
