Coronavirus: Incentives discussed to boost vaccine rate among young (updated)

Additional incentives for the young to get vaccinated are expected to be announced in the coming days, Commissioner for the Citizen Panayiotis Sentonas said on Monday.

Sentonas was speaking after a meeting at the presidential palace during which private companies and relevant bodies submitted suggestions for the provision of specific incentives to encourage the vaccination of young people.

Participating in the meeting were the Employers and Industrialists Federation (Oev), the Cyprus chamber of commerce and industry, the Cyprus youth organisation, the Cyprus telecommunications authority, the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC), the Cyprus sports organisation, the Cyprus youth council and the association of Cyprus banks and private universities.

Also present were Dr Zoe-Dorothea Pana and Professor Constantinos Fellas, both members of the scientific advisory committee of the ministry of health.

In collaboration with the stakeholders, the interest and suggestions of companies and organisations will be assessed, Sentonas said, thanking the participants to those who expressed their interest so far.

The incentives are expected to be announced in the coming days to boost the effort for vaccination coverage among young people, Sentonas said after the meeting.
