Tweaks to photovoltaics scheme in push for green economy

Cabinet has amended a plan for Renewable Energy Sources (RES) so as to facilitate the installation of photovoltaic systems (PVs) for citizens.

According to the deputy government spokesperson Niovi Parisinou, the change concerns the inclusion of the category of virtual net-metering for household consumers and professional farmers, who, due to lack of space and other environmental and urban constraints, cannot install photovoltaic systems on the roofs of their homes or farms.

For this category of people, the government will now allow to set up PVs anywhere they like.

As Parisinou pointed out, the goal is to make it easier for citizens to install PVs for their own consumption, which will significantly help reduce electricity costs, but also increase the penetration of RES in the country’s energy balance in a push to  transition to a green economy.
