A 42-year-old woman from Limassol informed police on Friday she had fallen victim to a cryptocurrency scam and lost a total of €19,200.

The woman said she had been contacted online by an unknown person who said he resided in Switzerland.

The man convinced her to download two cryptocurrency applications onto her mobile phone, to create two electronic wallets, and to send him all her card details.

The man then proceeded to take €19,200 out of the woman’s bank accounts.

Having lost the €19,200, and with the man asking for more money, the woman realised she had been the victim of fraud, and contacted the police.
