North’s new ‘parliament’ building to be ready in 2024

The current 'parliament' building in the north

The north’s new ‘parliament’ building will be ready in 2024, speaker Zorlu Tore said on Friday.

Tore was speaking as ‘parliament’ took receipt of three new service vehicles, which were bought by the Turkish parliament.

He said he had spoken to the Turkish parliament’s speaker Mustafa Sentop about his need for more vehicles as ‘parliament’ had an insufficient budget to buy them.

“Fortunately, Turkey buys these for us, they do not say no when we ask. We have to think about what would have happened if this were not the case,” he said.

He added, “we are here, regardless. With the support of the Republic of Turkey, we will make the TRNC even more established.”

Turkish Ambassador to northern Nicosia Metin Feyzioglu also spoke at the event, and said “everyone knows how important it is for the legislature, executive, and judiciary to be separate from each other in a democracy, and the TRNC is ahead of many states in the world in terms of democracy at this point.”
