Free mouth cancer examinations are being offered across Cyprus on Friday, as part of a campaign to raise awareness of oral cancer.

The campaign is organised by the health ministry’s dental services in collaboration with the Oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic at the Nicosia general hospital, and is taking place for its eleventh consecutive year.

Free examinations will be available at mobile dental units outside the general hospitals in Nicosia, Limassol, and Paphos, and outside the old Larnaca hospital on Friday between 0800-13.00.

The campaign states that prevention and early diagnosis can save lives, and the ministry pointed out that Gesy beneficiaries are entitled to one free dental examination and teeth cleaning per year,

Lip and mouth cancer is the 16th most common cancer, with 377,713 new cases of mouth, lip, and oropharyngeal cancer recorded worldwide in 2020.
