AglanJazz is back

It is not summer in Nicosia without the annual jazz festival that transforms a quaint neighbourhood into a mega jazz hub. This June 28 and 29, AglanJazz returns for another edition bursting with live music from both local musicians and invited artists from abroad. Organised by the Aglantzia Municipality, the Skali Cultural Centre will welcome music lovers and professional jazz musicians to celebrate the genre with two full evenings of performances.

Kickstarting the festival is a performance by Cypriot band Sonica featuring Christos Yerolatsitis on keys and compositions, Andreas Panteli on keys and Stelios Xydias on drums. At 9.30pm, a guitar duo from Israel – Marcelo Nami and Amir Weisswill – take the stage playing captivating melodies on the classical guitar. To wrap up day one of the festival, one more local ensemble will perform, bringing five musicians to the stage. Quintedo is made up of Marios Charalambous, Ermis Michail, Andreas Panteli, Kyriakos Kesta and Omiros Miltiadous who will present their music to Nicosia crowds.

The second day of the festival will begin with the Cypriot Allusion Quartet. Saxophone, guitar, double bass and drums will welcome back audiences under the direction of the musicians Marios Charalambous, Antreas Yerolatsitis, Kyriakos Kesta and Omiros Miltiadous.

Next, the Greek band Seeds will follow with Mihalis Kalkanis on double bass and piano and Christos Kalkanis on clarinet and electronic effects. At 10.30pm, Adonis Aletras and The L.U.S.T from Cyprus will perform, bringing seven local musicians to the stage to conclude the 2023 AglanJazz edition. Performing will be Adonis Aletras, Sophia Patsalides, Pavlos Loucaides, Evelthon Michaelides, George Koulas, Mike Michael and Iacovos Parpas.
